Caves, waterfalls and ravines
The Grand Tour of nature edited by Massimo Pulini and Franco Pozzi
Gambalunga Civic Library Ancient rooms
The artistic results of what we call the Grand Tour are mainly linked to the history and beauty of Italian cities, but the watercolours, drawings and albums that the artists created in that Bildungsroman also had natural subjects. Since the second half of the eighteenth century, an interest in the most impervious glimpses of nature has grown and some Italian artists anticipate, by a generation, the themes that will be typical of romanticism.
